Adidas brings back the Trefoil with 2026 World Cup away kits

Adidas has unveiled its away kits for 25 partner nations ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, including 13 teams already qualified for the tournament.

The collection leans into heritage, pulling from classic World Cup designs with geometric patterns and vertical striping, updated with a cleaner, modern edge.

For the first time in 36 years, the Trefoil logo returns to the global stage, placed on the right chest of every jersey. Long associated with Adidas Originals and street culture, its comeback signals a blend of football performance and lifestyle identity.

Every national team jersey reflects its country’s identity through subtle references to landscapes, historic moments, art, or architecture—blending heritage with industry-leading design and innovation.

“We are heading into the biggest World Cup ever, a tournament spanning three host nations. This feels like the perfect and most inspired moment to bring the adidas Trefoil back to the biggest stage in world football. This is a defining era in football culture and today’s football aesthetic extends further into different aspects of life,” Sam Handy, general manager for football at Adidas, said.

“In a world of football with more subcultures than ever before, the shirt acts as perhaps its most authentic expression. The designs on these away shirts pay homage to each country, while offering fans a collection of football aesthetics that move naturally between the pitch and the stands,” Handy added.

Built for performance across varying climates in the three host nations, the jerseys feature zoned mechanical stretch materials developed using 3D technology. They are also equipped with Adidas’ latest CLIMACOOL+, designed to wick sweat faster and keep players dry for longer.

Constructed with jacquard fabric, the shirts offer a lighter feel and enhanced freedom of movement. The iconic three stripes on the shoulders are finished with herringbone stitching for improved breathability and ventilation, even in demanding conditions.

Several of the standout kits highlight adidas’ emphasis on cultural storytelling. Countries like Argentina, Mexico, Japan, and Belgium feature distinct visual identities—from Argentina’s dark base with signature accents to Mexico’s patterns inspired by Mesoamerican heritage and Japan’s multi-stripe detailing symbolizing unity between players and fans.

The broader collection reinforces Adidas’ approach of tailoring each design to national identity, combining heritage references with modern performance materials—making the kits as much about storytelling as they are about function on the pitch.

All Adidas away shirts for national teams are available starting Friday, March 20, at select retailers worldwide.
