Adidas introduces a new era of lightweight running performance

Global sportswear brand Adidas has unveiled the Hyperboost Edge, a lightweight running shoe positioned to signal the next chapter of road running.

Fusing performance engineering with modern design, the model brings together three new technologies—the Hyperboost PRO midsole, PRIMEWEAVE upper, and LIGHTTRAXION outsole—working in sync to balance comfort, responsiveness, and speed with every stride. The introduction was announced on Thursday, March 5.

Positioned as Adidas’ first lightweight entry in the supertrainer category without a plate or rigid reinforcement, the Hyperboost Edge takes a different approach to propulsion. By removing stiffening elements entirely, the shoe allows its midsole foam to move naturally throughout the stride cycle, producing a smoother, more fluid ride. The result is a running experience that feels light yet driven underfoot. At just 255 grams for a men’s size 42, the shoe is engineered to offer both high energy return and lasting comfort over distance.

Central to the design is the Hyperboost PRO midsole, a high-performance foam developed to provide deep cushioning without sacrificing responsiveness.

Drawing inspiration from Adidas’ elite racing models, the material was optimized for both everyday training and long-distance runs. A prominent 45-millimeter (mm) heel stack paired with a 6mm drop creates a lively sensation across the foot, giving the Hyperboost Edge its distinctive feel and silhouette.

The foam’s development was backed by extensive materials research, laboratory testing, and consumer studies conducted in collaboration with the University of Cologne.

In a study involving 60 runners, the Hyperboost Edge consistently outperformed participants’ current running shoes across several key metrics: 73% preferred its energy return, 77% reported softer cushioning, more than half favored the overall comfort, and a majority said it delivered a superior running experience.

Complementing the midsole is an upper and outsole system designed to reinforce the sensation of effortless movement. The PRIMEWEAVE upper, crafted from a super-soft and ultra-light textile, wraps the foot in a stable yet flexible fit. Integrated heel cushioning adds targeted support and improves step-in comfort, enhancing stability without adding weight.

Underfoot, the newly developed LIGHTTRAXION outsole—inspired by Adidas racing footwear—runs the length of the shoe to deliver consistent traction from heel to toe. Built on a thinner, lighter base suitable for daily training, it carries the speed-driven DNA of the Adizero line while maintaining the durability required for regular road mileage.

Beyond performance, the Hyperboost Edge introduces a fresh design language for Adidas Running. The sculpted midsole, influenced by industrial design, places the Hyperboost PRO technology at the visual center of the shoe. For the first time, adidas positions its iconic three stripes along the sides of the midsole itself—a deliberate move highlighting the technology powering the run. The upper remains minimal and streamlined, with subtle touches such as hidden lace loops contributing to its clean, futuristic look.

“We wanted to create something that truly changes the game in running. With Hyperboost Edge, the ‘Power of Three’ becomes a reality—where cushioning, energy, and lightness create the perfect balance. By combining these three qualities without compromise, we have developed a super trainer that feels light on the foot, is responsive with every step and also cushioned with every step, regardless of the type of run,” says Patrick Nava, general manager of Adidas Running.

“This is just the beginning of what Hyperboost PRO can open up within our adidas running portfolio,” he added.

The Hyperboost Edge will launch in the Philippines on March 17 at select retailers and on the Adidas website, retailing for ₱13,000 and becoming available starting 10 a.m. Additional colorways are set to follow beginning May 1.
