Korean coach Jang Min Seok takes on expanded role as Aguilas-UMak FC chairman

Aguilas-UMak Football Club has handed South Korean coach Jang Min Seok a bigger role in its long-term football project, naming him club chairman while he continues as head coach.

The move gives Jang, an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Professional License holder, authority beyond the first team as Aguilas-UMak FC looks to build a club capable of contending for the Philippines Football League title and eventually competing in the AFC.

As chairman and head coach, Jang will oversee the club’s football direction, including player development, youth programs, infrastructure, international partnerships, and the professionalization of Aguilas-UMak FC.

“I did not come to the Philippines simply to coach a team. I came here to build something that can last,” he said. “Our goal is to win, but winning alone is not enough. I want to help build a strong club, develop young Filipino players, and create opportunities for them to compete internationally.”

Jang said he believes combining South Korea’s football expertise with the potential of Filipino players can help Aguilas-UMak FC establish a stronger identity at home and abroad.

“Aguilas-UMak FC is not just a team for one season. We are building for the future,” he said. “My dream is to make this club a champion and take Aguilas-UMak FC onto the Asian stage.”

A former standout at Hongik University, Jang was considered one of South Korea’s top prospects in the Class of 1995 before Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors selected him first overall in the 1999 K-League Draft.

He went on to represent South Korea at the youth and senior national team levels before transitioning into coaching and earning the AFC/KFA P-License.

With Jang now serving in both leadership roles, Aguilas-UMak FC is reinforcing its commitment to building a sustainable club alongside its pursuit of success on the pitch.
