‘Linda Walker’ actress Zhang Yingfei to join education outreach in the Philippines

Chinese actress Zhang Yingfei, the 22-year-old breakout star behind the viral micro-drama “The Heiress Who Won with Brains”, is set to visit the Philippines from June 8 to 11 to support an education advocacy campaign timed with the reopening of classes nationwide.

Zhang, whose lead character “Linda Walker” became an online phenomenon among Filipino audiences, will participate in the “Education for a Better Future” advocacy together with educational charity projects organized by Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry Inc. (FFCCCII).

Organizers said the visit, which coincides with the nationwide opening of classes on June 8, aims to promote the values of education, discipline, perseverance, and hope among Filipino youth.

The actress is expected to attract strong interest from students, educators, vloggers, social media influencers, and fans of Asian entertainment. The Linda Walker series gained widespread popularity in the Philippines through Tagalog AI-dubbed clips that circulated heavily on TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and other short-video platforms.

The story follows a young woman who rises above poverty and adversity through intelligence, hard work, courage, and education. The character’s struggles and determination resonated strongly with Filipino audiences, prompting extensive online discussions, memes, reaction videos, and motivational posts. Many viewers viewed Linda Walker as a symbol of resilience and self-improvement in the face of hardship.

Prominent Filipino personalities including Vice Ganda, Angeline Quinto, and Rania Mateo, along with numerous vloggers and online influencers, have discussed or referenced the Linda Walker phenomenon on social media, further boosting the series’ visibility among Filipino netizens.

According to organizers, Zhang will begin her visit on June 8, with a 9:00 a.m. courtesy call on Mayor Isko Moreno at Manila City Hall. She is then scheduled to tour Intramuros and Binondo, the historic district recognized as the world’s oldest Chinatown. FFCCCII officials said the activities are also intended to help promote Philippine tourism and cultural exchange.

One of the highlights of the visit will be a June 9 outreach program at Quezon City High School, one of Metro Manila’s oldest and most respected public secondary schools. The event, scheduled for 10:00 a.m., is expected to be attended by Senator Sonny Angara, Jing Quan, Joy Belmonte and FFCCCII president Victor Lim.

During the program, Zhang and FFCCCII representatives are expected to distribute gifts and school supplies to students, including notebooks, pens, toothpaste, soap, and other essential items. She is also scheduled to deliver a short inspirational message encouraging Filipino youth to “study hard, dream big, and never surrender to difficulties.”

Organizers said Zhang hopes the visit will contribute to stronger friendship, educational exchanges, and cultural understanding between the Filipino and Chinese peoples through youth-oriented activities and public engagement.

FFCCCII has long been active in socio-economic, educational, and civic initiatives across the Philippines. Its projects include “Operation Barrio Schools”, under which the organization has donated 6,500 rural public school buildings nationwide, as well as calamity relief operations, medical missions, and support for Filipino-Chinese volunteer fire brigades across the country.

Organizers added that in an era dominated by rapidly changing online trends, the Linda Walker story stands out because of its emphasis on timeless values such as education, integrity, perseverance, family sacrifice, and the belief that intelligence and character can triumph over privilege and adversity.

For many young Filipinos, they said, Linda Walker has evolved beyond a fictional role and become a symbol of hope and determination.
