President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has approved an executive order allowing the issuance of Digital Nomad Visas (DNVs) to foreign remote workers, aiming to boost Philippine tourism and the economy.

Executive Order No. 86, signed on April 24, authorizes the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to issue DNVs to non-immigrant foreigners working remotely for clients or employers based outside the Philippines.

Digital nomads—workers who use technology to perform their jobs from anywhere—are increasingly drawn to the country for its affordable cost of living, scenic locations, and growing digital infrastructure. The World Economic Forum ranked the Philippines as the world’s seventh fastest-growing remote work hub in 2023.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, prove income earned abroad, hold valid health insurance, and have no criminal record. They must also be nationals of countries offering DNVs to Filipinos and have access to a Philippine Foreign Service Post.

Visa holders may stay for up to one year, renewable for another year, with multiple entry privileges.

The DFA, along with the Department of Justice, Department of Tourism,, Bureau of Immigration, and Bureau of Internal Revenue, must issue implementing guidelines within 30 days and maintain a database of DNV holders in compliance with data privacy laws.
