With its dramatic limestone cliffs, glass-clear lagoons, and teeming marine life, Palawan has once again captured the world’s imagination.

On April 22, U.S. News & World Report unveiled its annual ranking of the 24 Best Islands to Visit, placing this Philippine paradise at the very top.

“This Philippine archipelago’s 1,700-plus islands and islets entice adventure seekers and beach bums alike,” the report notes.

From the emerald waters of Kayangan Lake in Coron to the towering karst formations of Bacuit Bay in El Nido, Palawan offers no shortage of bucket-list experiences. Adventurers can kayak through the surreal caves of the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River, while those seeking a slower pace can lounge on secluded beaches or snorkel vibrant reefs.

“Those who prefer to vacation at a slower pace can lounge on serene beaches overlooking limestone formations or catch a glimpse of marine life on a snorkeling tour,” the report adds.

Travelers are encouraged to plan their visit during Palawan’s dry season, which runs from November through May — a window when the island’s beauty shines at its brightest but also draws the biggest crowds. Booking accommodations and tours well in advance is highly recommended.

Following Palawan in the top five are Sardinia in the Mediterranean, Mauritius, Santorini, and the Faroe Islands.
