President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will posthumously award the Presidential Medal of Merit to four luminaries in Philippine arts and culture, Malacañang announced on Wednesday.

Palace press officer and Presidential Communications Office undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed that the honorees are National Artist for Film Nora Aunor, singer Pilita Corrales, actress Gloria Romero, and chef Margarita Forés. The awarding ceremony will be held on May 4 at Malacañan Palace.

The Presidential Medal of Merit recognizes individuals whose exceptional work in their respective fields has brought distinction to the country.

Aunor, who died on April 16, was a revered screen legend whose five-decade career included iconic performances in films such as “Himala” and “Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos”. President Marcos visited her wake on Monday to offer his condolences.

Corrales, known as “Asia’s Queen of Songs,” passed away on April 12. She was a pioneering figure in music and entertainment, opening doors for Filipino performers across the region.

Romero, who died on January 25, was a beloved figure in Philippine cinema, celebrated for her elegance and a career that spanned generations since the 1950s.

Forés, who died on February 11, was an internationally acclaimed chef and restaurateur. Named Asia’s Best Female Chef in 2016, she was known for elevating Filipino cuisine on the global stage.
